The Juventus striker scored his ninth Serie A goal, as many as Messi has scored in LaLiga this campaign, on Saturday, and broke a club record along the way.
However, Mbappe, who did not feature for Paris Saint-Germain on the weekend, and Emiliano Sala stayed at the top of the ranking with 11 strikes each.
The duo is followed by four stars, including Mbappe's teammate Neymar – who also did not play for PSG on Saturday – with all of them having netted 10 times so far.
Messi and Ronaldo are two of seven stars who have found the back of the net nine times in the league so far this season.
The tightest top goalscorer race currently takes place in the Bundesliga, where Borussia Dortmund's Paco Alcacer and Eintracht Frankfurt duo Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller lead the ranking with nine goals apiece.

Mzansi's Lebo Mothiba did not find the back of the net this past weekend, and remained on seven goals in Ligue 1 for the campaign.
