The Blaugrana captain has found the back of the net 27 times across all platforms for his side since the turn of the year, having played in 28 matches. With two games to go until the end of Barca's season, Messi could still add to his tally before the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
Closest to the Argentine is Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, who has improved since the previous season. The 20-year-old has struck 20 times in 21 games in 2019 so far, but might have had more goals were it not for the suspension he is currently serving.
Karim Benzema, who has not been a regular in these lists of late, remarkably sits third in the standing with his 19 goals so far in 2019. The French forward has enjoyed something of a rebirth at Real Madrid this season, proving he is far from finished at the highest level.
Manchester City talisman Sergio Aguero follows the aforementioned Benzema with his 18 strikes, while Liverpool's Senegalese star Sadio Mane is currently on 17 goals with one game remaining until the end of his season.
High-profile names such as Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also feature in the ranking, while Ronaldo sits outside the top 10 with 12 goals in 17 matches thus far this year.
