While Cristiano Ronaldo made a strong case for himself to be considered as the greatest of all time after his three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles at Real Madrid, a shock statistic appears to show that FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi is far superior to him.
The Argentine is widely thought of as one of the three greatest footballers in history, alongside his compatriot Diego Maradona and Brazil icon Pele.
Ronaldo, however, entered the discussion with venom when he won the Champions League in three successive years at Los Blancos, in 2016, 2017 and 2018, while he also secured two international trophies in the form of the 2016 European Championship and the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League titles.

These achievements coupled with Messi's failures for his country, as well as his struggles in Europe with Barcelona, had many claiming the Portuguese will retire one day with a greater legacy, although the Blaugrana captain does have one more Ballon d'Or than Ronaldo does.
Last week, a football-dedicated Twitter account weighed in on the debate with a statistic that will shock many. It pointed to the rate at which they each contribute to goals. While both superstars have since played more than once since the tweet was posted, not much has changed in terms of the message it gets across.
As it stands, Messi has contributed to 1 026 goals in 865 matches, while his rival has contributed to 994 goals in 1 008 matches for club and country, according to Transfermarkt.
