According to Cadena SER, the 33-year-old wants to leave the Blaugrana when his contract expires in 2021 and has put recent talks of an extension on hold.
It is claimed that negotiations started well, with both sides being happy initially, but recent events have made Messi reconsider his future.
The Barcelona captain is reportedly fed up with information leaks coming from the club suggesting he is responsible for decisions he had nothing to do with.
He is also believed to feel the club does not have a winning project and has told his closest teammates that he does not want to become the problem for Barcelona.
Messi has always said he would stay as long as the club wanted him, but recent events have made him rethink his future and an exit now seems a real possibility.
His current expires in June 2021, so he could leave the Camp Nou on a free transfer after the 2020/21 season.
