Real Madrid star Luka Modric has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo was on the verge of crying after receiving some criticism from Jose Mourinho during a few years ago.
Mourinho has been known to fall-out with his players wherever he has managed due to his tough approach and it was no different at Los Blancos.
During a Copa del Rey encounter in 2013, Modric reveals Mourinho was left angered by Ronaldo failing to get back on defence during a throw-in and made his feelings known in the dressing room.
"I was surprised by Mourinho's reaction. We were winning 2-0 in the Copa del Rey," the Croatian says in his upcoming biography, according to Corriere dello Sport.
"Ronaldo did not chase the rivals on his throw-in and Jose was furious with Cristiano.
"The two fought for a long time on the field. After returning to the locker room at half-time, I saw Ronaldo desperate, on the verge of tears.
"He said, 'I do my best and he continues to criticise me.'
"Mourinho came in and began to criticise the Portuguese for his responsibility during the game.
"They became so hot that only the intervention of the team-mates avoided a real fight between them."
