New FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has addressed the situation surrounding Lionel Messi after the six-time Ballon d'Or winner requested to leave the club.
Barca President To Ask Messi To Take Wage Cut
Last month, the Argentine made it clear he did not want to be at the Catalan club for the 2020/21 season, but was ultimately forced to stay by president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the board.
In a tell-all interview, the 33-year-old said the Barcelona chief was not a man of his word, claiming that he told Messi throughout last season he would be free to leave the Camp Nou in this transfer window.
It was a tense situation for everybody involved with the Blaugrana, but new boss Koeman has now suggested that he and Messi are getting along fine, insisting the issue was with the captain and the club's board.
"That has passed me reasonably well," he told Fox Sports.
"That was mainly a conflict between Messi and the club. I have spoken to Messi since then and we will continue as usual."
Messi featured in a friendly for Barcelona this past Saturday, and will be in their squad to take on Girona in another exhibition match on Wednesday evening.
