The 31-year-old could not stop his side from collapsing 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night, which saw them being knocked out 4-3 on aggregate.

Messi, who was involved in all of Barcelona’s eight shots, as Squawka pointed out, was left in despair after another historic collapse.

But things went from bad to worse when the Blaugrana team bus left their captain and superstar behind at Anfield, as reported by Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito.

Messi was reportedly held behind by anti-doping testers and the rest of the team were reportedly not in a mood to wait. However, the Argentine made alternative arrangements and later caught up with his teammates at the airport.

He was also not in the mood to chat to the media, as he went through the mixed zone without stopping for interviews.

For a second year running, Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League following a three-goal collapse. Last year, they took a 4-1 first-leg lead to Rome but lost 3-0 in the quarter-final, while this campaign they squandered another 3-0 first-leg win at Anfield.
