The 26-year-old, who is currently recovering from a foot injury in his native Brazil, has reportedly been identified as a main target for Los Blancos in the coming transfer window.
English publication The Times has now claimed that Neymar's camp asked PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, during his visit to Brazil last week, to open discussions over an improved contract.
Neymar’s camp are believed to be using Real Madrid's interest in the player to negotiate a whopping £52 million (R882 million) per year contract. The potential new deal would make the Brazilian the highest paid player in the world, overtaking Messi's current deal worth £40 million (R679 million) annually.
But it remains to be seen whether or not Les Parisiens will give in to the whopping salary demand. Due to his injury, he was not able to help the French giants go any further in the UEFA Champions League than they had in previous seasons, and he is yet to prove whether he can lead the club the way Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo do at their current sides.
Neymar has scored 29 goals and assisted another 19 strikes in just 30 appearances for PSG so far this season, but he is unlikely to add to this tally after being ruled out for about three months.
