Spanish giants FC Barcelona have reportedly met Neymar for talks over a potential shock return after his world-record departure in 2017.
The Catalan club are believed to have stepped up their pursuit of the Brazilian over a potential return to Camp Nou.
Neymar left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222 million (R3.53 billion) with many experts suggesting he wanted to move out of Lionel Messi’s shadow and bolster his Ballon d’Or hopes.
However, the 26-year-old is said to be unhappy in the French league and wants to return to LaLiga.
Barcelona, meanwhile, would reportedly be keen to take Neymar back despite his departure being under something of a cloud.
The club have upped their interest in the Brazilian in order to beat their eternal rivals Real Madrid to his signature, with even Messi admitting last month “we would love for him to come back”.
Radio Catalunya now report that Barcelona representative Andre Cury, who played a key role in Neymar’s initial move to Spain from Santos, has met with Neymar and his entourage for a second time over the festive season.
He reportedly already met with Neymar’s father in London back in November, and now again but this time in Brazil during the player’s winter break.
Pini Zahavi, the Israeli agent, who was involved in Neymar’s PSG switch, is understood to be part of the discussions as well.
However, so far PSG have insisted Neymar is not for sale. But the club is under Financial Fair Play investigation and if UEFA find the Ligue 1 giants guilty of breaking FFP rules, a sale of Neymar could be their best way out.
