With Luis Suarez out for four months, captain Lionel Messi has reportedly told FC Barcelona which striker he thinks the club should buy in the January transfer window to replace the Uruguayan.
According to Sportsmole, the Argentine has asked new manager Quique Setien to target Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero in this window.
Suarez will be sidelined for four months with a knee injury that he picked up in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid a couple of weeks ago.
It has been claimed that Messi believes the City forward would be the ideal replacement for Suarez, due to his relationship with the 31-year-old in the Argentina national team.
Aguero's current contract expires in June 2021, and it is widely believed the Manchester club's record goalscorer will look to move on once his deal ends.
Suarez is facing a similar situation at the Catalan club, with his contract also running out at the end of next season. The Uruguayan is also expected to seek a new challenge, having previously admitted that the Blaugrana will eventually need to find his replacement.
Aguero, who turns 32 years old in June this year, has been one of the best strikers in world football since his 2011 move to City, for whom he has found the back of the net on 251 occasions.
Before taking his career to England, the Argentine represented Atletico Madrid in Spain, scoring 100 goals in 230 appearances for the LaLiga club.
