Since his breakthrough at the club in 2005, no player has had more of an impact at the Blaugrana than Messi. With hundreds of goals and a remarkable trophy haul to his name, he is widely considered one of the greatest players the world has ever seen.
With that in mind, many were surprised recently when it came out that Messi has a clause in his contract with Barca that would allow him to terminate the deal at the end of every season as long as he informs the club well ahead of time.
After this information came out, it was revealed that a few other legends of the club had the same clause in their deals, such as Xavi Hernandez and Carles Puyol, two former first-team captains.
While not many can imagine Messi leaving the Blaugrana any time soon, a new report from Mundo Deportivo has now suggested that the Argentine is already weighing up his options ahead of next season.
The 32-year-old is reportedly thinking of his taking his career to the MLS in the US, where he would have several clubs interested in his signature. David Beckham's Inter Miami are reportedly one of the teams keeping an eye on the player's situation.
However, as reported on Monday, the Blaugrana are understood to want to offer Messi a lifetime deal, although it should be noted that Andres Iniesta accepted a similar contract just a year before leaving his boyhood club.
Before these latest rumours emerged, the forward had always maintained that he is happy in the city of Barcelona, and that if he does move on one day, it would most likely be to his county of birth, Argentina.
Messi has scored 603 goals and assisted a further 242 strikes in 687 games since making his senior debut for the Catalan club.
