A shock report has suggested that former Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo actually wanted to join another team before he eventually signed for Juventus.
Italian journalist Carlo Alvino, who follows Serie A team Napoli closely, has claimed that the Portuguese forward was initially interested in joining Gli Azzurri before he put pen to paper on a deal with the Bianconeri.
Former Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti, who worked with Ronaldo during their time together at the Santiago Bernabeu, was named Napoli boss in March, but according to Alvino, the club simply could not afford the attacker.
"Cristiano Ronaldo would be wearing the Napoli jersey today if the club had been able to spend €350 million," the reporter told TV Luna
"Juve were Plan B for the Portuguese star. Jorge Mendes has a strong rapport with Napoli and president (Aurelio) De Laurentiis.
"The agent offered him to Napoli, but as they wouldn't pay that much, he turned to Juve instead."
Having signed a four-year deal with the Turin club, Ronaldo will be unveiled as a Juventus player on Monday.
