Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to snub FIFA's recent The Best awards ceremony has reportedly left the world football governing body seething with anger.
The Portuguese superstar failed to attend the gala event after apparently discovering that long-time rival Lionel Messi was going to be crowned the Men's Player of the Year ahead of himself and Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.
According to Marca, Ronaldo was still expected to attend the ceremony, where he was later named in the World XI, but gave no notice of his decision to snub the glamorous event.

The Spanish publication reported further that the 34-year-old had given no indication he would not be attending, and that organisers had expected him to be present up until the World XI was announced, where he was the only absentee in the 11-man strong selection.
Ronaldo is currently nursing a minor injury but organisers received no correspondence from the former Real Madrid star's camp that it would result in him missing the event, or that it was the cause of his absence, and FIFA are reportedly furious at what has been taken as an insult.
This is the second year in a row the Portugal international has snubbed a major awards ceremony, after both he and Messi failed to attend the Ballon d'Or event last year, when Luka Modric claimed top honours.
