In a desperate bid to stop him from joining Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly offered Kylian Mbappe an enormous pay rise.
With his contract in France expiring at the end of the season, many expect the 23-year-old to sign for Los Blancos as a free agent ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Mbappe's anticipated switch to the Spanish giants will technically be a free deal, although reports suggest the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners have tabled a massive €100 million (R1.6 billion) signing-on bonus for the player.
According to Sky Sports, however, PSG are not yet giving up hope of extending his stay in Paris, and have acted by offering to double his wages, which would make him the world's highest-paid player.
ESPN journalist Julien Laurens has claimed the French giants are also prepared to offer Mbappe the club captaincy, and have promised to strengthen the team ahead of the coming season.
Speaking recently about his future, Mbappe admitted he is close to making a final decision as to where he will be playing next season, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano having reported that Real are confident of landing his signature.
Mbappe has scored 36 goals and assisted a further 26 strikes in 45 matches in all competitions for PSG so far in this campaign.
