Despite it appearing that Lionel Messi could stay at FC Barcelona beyond this season, Neymar is reportedly still keen to reunite with the Argentine, and knows this might not happen at Paris Saint-Germain.
According to Jose Alvarez, who recently spoke on Spanish sports show El Chiringuito, Neymar feels his former Barcelona colleague is closer to staying at the Catalan giants than he is to leaving PSG.
It was previously believed that Messi was set on leaving his boyhood club, but that seems to have changed in recent months, with the Argentine recapturing his best form on the field for the Blaugrana.
Despite Neymar seemingly feeling the 33-year-old could now extend his contract in Spain, the Brazil star is reportedly still intent on reuniting with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner and has placed negotiations regarding a new deal with the French club on hold.

With the Brazilian's contract expiring in 2022, it is understood that he could decide not to renew his deal in Paris and instead return to Barcelona when he becomes a free agent at the end of next season.
Reports in France, however, have suggested that Neymar could soon sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions, although he is yet to officially put pen to paper on any extension.
Neymar was reportedly close to returning to the Camp Nou in 2019, and even held talks with certain board members who had flown to France to meet with him, but the transfer seemingly did not materialise due to a lack of finance after the LaLiga club spent about €125 million (R2.2 billion) to sign Antoine Griezmann.
The Selecao talisman has previously admitted it is his wish to play with Messi again, but it remains to be seen where that reunion will take place if it does transpire.
