Paris Saint-Germain superstars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are reportedly at loggerheads, with reports suggesting their fallout could see one of them leave the French giants in this window.
One of the main reasons for the duo's clash came when Neymar questioned the attitude of the team's "young players" after PSG's defeat to Rennes in the Coupe de France final, with Mbappe seemingly believing he was one of the players his teammate's criticism was directed at.
The 20-year-old received a red card in that loss to Rennes, during which Les Parisiens saw a two-goal lead slip away, and after the match, Neymar punched a fan as the players made their way to collect their medals.
Spanish publication Sport has claimed that the Brazilian's remarks after the final have irked Mbappe and that their relationship has gone sour since.
The Frenchman has taken up a star role for his team this season, scoring 38 goals across all competitions, while assisting another 17 strikes. His exploits in Ligue 1 saw him replace his teammate as the league's Player of the Year.
While Neymar was bought for a world-record fee of €222 million (R3.6 billion) and was initially the big superstar at the club – a fact Mbappe accepted when he joined in the same window – the 20-year-old has outshone his teammate in their two years at the club.
At the recent Ligue 1 awards gala, the France star revealed that he wants more responsibility as a player, be that at PSG or elsewhere.
"This is a very important moment for me, I am arriving at maybe the first or second turning point in my career," he said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
"I have learned so much here, and I feel it's maybe the time to have more responsibility. Maybe at PSG, that would give me great pleasure, or maybe elsewhere for a new project."
Sport believe Mbappe and Neymar are at loggerheads because both players want to be the club's main star. As such, this situation could lead to one of them leaving in this transfer window as a result.
