It is believed that before Real Madrid signed a new No. 7 following Cristiano Ronaldo's exit, one of their attacking stars rejected a chance to take the number.
Ronaldinho: I Want Neymar To Join…
After taking the jersey from Raul Gonzalez in 2010, Ronaldo went on to become one of the most iconic No. 7s in the history of the sport.
The Portuguese broke countless records wearing the famous number in Spain, and after his move to Juventus in Italy, Mariano Diaz is now Real's new No. 7.
However, according to Cope, Los Blancos first offered playmaker Marco Asensio a chance to wear the shirt.
It has been claimed that Asensio turned down the opportunity to don the famous jersey, although his reasons therefor are not clear.
The No. 7 was then offered to striker Diaz upon his return to the club in this transfer window, with the striker accepting it.
'I Don't Understand Ronaldo's Move To Juve'
Asensio, who has been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants in recent times, has so far assisted five goals in four games for Los Blancos this season.
