Los Blancos signed 17-year-old Vinicius Junior for €45 million (R642 million) last season, but he is only eligible to play for the Spanish giants when he turns 18, which will happen on 12 July.
Vinicius has stepped up his game in Brazil after joining Flamengo's first team this season, and has scored in his past three games.
In the 1380 minutes of first team football he has played this season, he has already scored eight goals – more than his famous countryman Neymar had in his first 1500 minutes of senior football with Santos, as Marca pointed out.
Vinicius, who was named the best player at the 2017 South American U17 Football Championship, also outscores other famous Brazilian exports to Europe such as Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus.
While the latter had scored seven goals in his first 1500 minutes of professional football at Palmeiras, Coutinho only scored five goals in his first 3000 minutes for Vasco Da Gama.
Vinicius won his first trophy with Flamengo recently, lifting the Taca Guanabara – a tournament organised by the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation.
According to Marca, Vinicius will reportedly join Madrid ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and spend the pre-season with the club. Zinedine Zidane and his coaching staff will then decide whether he will stay with the first team or be loaned out for the coming season.
