The Portuguese has been in superb form in 2018, scoring 23 goals since the turn of the year, and his latest two strikes helped his national team beat Egypt 2-1 on Friday.
Overall, Ronaldo has now scored 81 goals for the 2016 UEFA European Championship winners, with only two players having scored more international goals than he has.
Following his latest brace, Ronaldo overtook Zambia's Godfrey Chitalu, whose 79 goals he equaled during the international break in October. Ronaldo also jumped above Japanese forward Kunishige Kamamoto, who netted 80 goals in 84 appearances between 1964 and 1977.
Only legendary Hungary and Real Madrid forward Ferenc Puskas, with 84 goals, and Iran striker Ali Daei have scored more international goals than the 33-year-old.
Daei wrote his name in the record books as the leading international goalscorer worldwide after scoring 109 times in 149 matches between 1993 and 2006 for Iran.
