The 37-year-old pulled a goal back for United just minutes after the Blues opened the scoring in their 1-1 draw with the winners of last season's UEFA Champions League.
Ronaldo was played in behind Chelsea's backline by a superb chipped pass from Nemanja Matic, before controlling the ball and volleying it past Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was also involved in most of United's brightest attacking moments, while he also tracked back to help out in times when the Red Devils needed bodies in defence.
It is still unclear as to whether Ronaldo will remain at United beyond this season ahead of Erik ten Hag's arrival in the dugout, but Rangnick believes the forward showed he can still be highly impactful for the team.
"Not only the goal that he scored today, his whole performance, his attitude, how often he helped in our own half, at the age of 37, a player like him, this is not normal to do that," he said, according to Sky Sports.
"He showed that today and if he plays like he played today, he can still be a great help for this team.
"In the end, it is both Erik [ten Hag]'s and also Cristiano's decision what they want to do so I think it is not for me to speak about that, but as I say the performance of Cristiano today was really great."
Ronaldo has now scored 17 times in 28 Premier League games this season, while he has found the net on 23 occasions overall since the start of the campaign.
