The Brazilian recently joined the French giants for €222 million (R3.46 billion), becoming the most expensive player in the history of football in the process.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp now believes that Messi's reported €300 million (R4.7 billion) release clause could soon be activated, suggesting that Neymar's price tag has now made that possibility a reality.
"It's pretty simple. Until now, it was simply seen as impossible," the German tactician told DAZN.
"Then there is the list, with the release clauses for Barcelona. Leo Messi, €300 million.
"In a period of just a month that suddenly sounds possible too. That used to be an outrageous amount.
"They just set that amount randomly. I mean, who would pay €300 million? And now it simply happened."
Klopp also questioned the ethics around Neymar's transfer fee, and believes that perhaps FIFA need to intervene to keep control of the crazy spending.
"I don't even know if this is right," he continued.
"No coach would demand such a thing. That's been decided on other levels and now he is a PSG player, obviously. A simple solution would be a rule. Where we want to go and where this should stop.
"The biggest clubs can decide on that, where they would want to set a limit. €150 million or €550 million, or whatever, and then no one would complain anymore. This is a topic now since it happened for the first time."
