Paris Saint-Germain have officially released an update on Lionel Messi after he was substituted on the weekend by Mauricio Pochettino.
The club has issued a statement on their website confirming the 34-year-old has sustained a knee injury and will be assessed further in 48 hours' time.
It read: "Lionel Messi, following the blow received on his left knee, had an MRI this morning which confirms the signs of bone contusion, a new point will be performed in 48 hours."
The former Barcelona skipper was replaced by Achraf Hakimi in the 75th minute of PSG's match against Olympique Lyon on Sunday, much to the surprise of fans at the Parc des Princes and the player himself, who appeared visibly annoyed by Pochettino's call.

At the time, the French giants were level at 1-1 with rivals Lyon in a Ligue 1 clash that saw Messi appear in front of his new club's home supporters for the first time.
Les Parisiens did eventually claim all three points after another substitute, Mauro Icardi, scored the match-winning strike in stoppage time.
Messi will now miss his side's league clash with Metz on Wednesday night.
