Police To Question Ronaldo Amid In Juve Scandal?

It is reported that Cristiano Ronaldo might be questioned by authorities in Italy amid an investigation into Juventus’ transfer dealings that could see the Serie A giants being relegated.

CR7 Causes Huge Stir After Messi Claims Ballon D'Or

According to reports in Italy, Italian authorities recently confiscated documents from the club's offices in Turin and Milan that relate to transfers, invoices and financial statements.

One of the transfers in question is Ronaldo's club-record move to Juventus in 2018, which came at a reported fee of £105 million (R2.2 billion).

If found guilty of false accounting, the Italian giants could be relegated to Serie B – it would be the second time this happens to them in the 21st century after the controversial Calciopoli match-fixing scandal of 2006.

Here are 10 famous match-fixing scandals in football:

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, investigators might now want to hold discussions with Ronaldo as part of the probe, with it being claimed that prosecutors are looking for a secret agreement the Portugal captain struck with the Bianconeri.

The secret agreement, it is believed, could relate to the pay cut Ronaldo agreed to during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, or the severance package he was given before joining Manchester United.

Phone recordings taken by police reportedly contain conversations in which a "document that should not have theoretically existed" in relation to the 36-year-old striker was discussed, but it is yet to be found.

Ronaldo could therefore be called in and asked to co-operate with authorities investigating the club's business, with transfers such as Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur, the swap deal involving Joao Cancelo and Danilo in 2019, and the exchange involving Miralem Pjanic and Arthur in 2020 also being looked at.
