Pep Guardiola: Nobody In The World Like Ronaldinho Until Lionel Messi
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to the recently retired Ronaldinho, saying he had not seen the kind of magic he produced until Lionel Messi burst on to the scene.
The Brazilian received many farewell messages and tributes following his retirement announcement last week, and Guardiola has now reserved some kind words for the former FC Barcelona star.
The Spanish tactician, who made the decision to sell Ronaldinho when he took over the Catalan club's hot seat in 2008, said he had not seen a player like the Selecao legend until Messi arrived on the scene.
"When Joan Laporta became the president of Barcelona he made a big impact, and when he signed Ronaldinho he was the biggest influence on the pitch for Barcelona," Guardiola said, according to FourFourTwo.
"It helped to recover the self-esteem in that club after some really low years.
"Between Joan Laporta as president and Ronaldinho on the pitch, they helped to turn around the situation at the club.
"He had fantastic years at Barcelona – he won leagues and the Champions League.
"He was a player at another level. Until Messi arrived, honestly, I had never seen anything like that before.
"I wish him all the best for the future. He had an amazing impact, not only at Barcelona, but in the world of football.
"He had a big, big impact."
Ronaldinho won every trophy possible during his fine career, including the UEFA Champions League, the LaLiga title, the FIFA World Cup and the Copa America.
