Despite watching star striker Sergio Aguero smash two Premier League records this past weekend, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has shared his view that Lionel Messi is still the best in the business.
Aguero inspired City to a 6-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, in a performance that saw him become the Premier League's highest-scoring foreigner ever and break the league record for the most hat-tricks by a single player.
After the match, Guardiola was asked whether or not the Argentina international was the best striker he had worked with, to which he gave an unequivocal response.
"The best is Messi," the former FC Barcelona boss answered, as reported by the Daily Mail.
"Messi is (the best) No. 9, No. 10, No. 11, No. 7, No. 6, No. 5, No. 4, but Sergio, of the rest, is absolutely one of them."
Guardiola did reserve praise for his current star man, however, lavishing him with compliments following his record-breaking showing.
"All the players in the locker room congratulated him," the Spaniard added.
"To break this record of an incredible legend like Thierry Henry, it means it's not just for a short period, it's many years.
"To be the foreign player with the most goals and hat-tricks speaks for itself. It's an honour to be here the day he achieved that, (and) hopefully he can score more.
"There are players through the incredible history of English football and he is one of them, he helps to make the Premier League and English football better."
