Pep Guardiola Explains What Raheem Sterling Must Learn From Lionel Messi
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has explained which element of FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi's game he feels Raheem Sterling should adopt to improve even further.
The young Englishman has been in excellent form all season for the Citizens, and has shown a willingness to learn and improve under the Spanish manager.
The 23-year-old has, however, been accused of going to ground too easily on many occasions, but Guardiola has rejected these claims, adding that the winger can learn from Messi in this regard.
"People talk too much and say Raheem is diving," the Spaniard said, according to the Daily Express.
"People start to talk about that and then people start to believe that. He is a guy who is quite honest. He is smart, intelligent and he is not a guy who kicks the opponent.
"I learned from the best player in history, Messi. He never complained on the pitch. Top players get kicked, so they stand up and go again – and Raheem has to learn from that.
"Raheem is a guy that is so fast. He's quicker than the other ones and he's smarter than the other ones. But he is not a guy who always goes down. He is honest, and an exceptional guy."
Sterling has played 45 games for City so far this season, scoring 23 goals and assisting a further 17 strikes.
