A former Paris Saint-Germain player has claimed that his ex-club might have made a big mistake signing Lionel Messi after his performance in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester City.
Report: How Messi Feels About Potential Barca Return
A lot of hype surrounded the Argentine's free transfer to the French giants in August after he was forced to leave Barcelona due to the Spanish giants' financial difficulties.
Messi was in action for PSG against City in the Champions League on Wednesday, and has come in for a lot of criticism for his lack of work without the ball, along with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Reacting to the 34-year-old's performance, former Les Parisiens winger Jerome Rothen went as far as to suggest that PSG might have made an error in judgement by bringing Messi in.
"I think so, more and more, that Messi at PSG is a mistake," he said during a Rothen s'enflamme podcast, according to PSG Talk.
"When you take Lionel Messi, you expect a lot of things, individual achievements that have been hard to see since the start of the season.
"He improves his teammates. Then you have to stop telling me that he is still breaking in. You don't have time! We are arriving in December.
"There are not the players to allow Lionel Messi to have a hold on the team. He sets up a false rhythm which does not correspond to the players who are around.
"The Parisian leaders did not realise that you have to have players who go in his direction, in his tempo, who allow him to shine."
