The Portuguese netted a brace in injury-time to help his national side beat Egypt 2-1 on Friday, taking his international tally to 81 goals. In so doing, he extended his lead among the active international record scorers over second-placed Messi to 20 strikes.

Ronaldo's goals also saw him climb into third spot in the ranking for most international goals in history, with only Hungary's Ferenc Puskas and Iran's Ali Daei having scored more than the Real Madrid superstar.

Spain’s all-time record scorer David Villa follows with 59 goals in third place among the active record scorers. The 36-year-old hasn’t retired yet and was called up to the national team last year September for the first time since the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, Villa only played one minute and hasn't been part of Spain's squad again, which makes it seem unlilkely he will add another goal to his tally.

Brazil superstar Neymar, as well as Robert Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko are also among top active goalscorers list, which was published by Bleacher Report.

Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan sits with 51 goals for the Black Stars among the top 11 international goalscorers, who are still active. The 32-year-old is still Africa’s top goalscorer in World Cup history with six strikes, but has scored the last goal for his national team in July 2017 and since only made one appearance for Ghana.
