Solskjaer Urged To Drop Ronaldo

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to drop Cristiano Ronaldo to save his job.

Solskjaer Responds To Exit Talk After Big Loss To Liverpool

While he has scored six goals in nine matches since returning to Old Trafford, questions continue to be asked about the 36-year-old's work rate off the ball.

Statisticians have divulged that the 36-year-old is not a regular presser out of possession, which is an area many football analysts believe United desperately need to improve in order to compete.

Certain sections of the club's support feel the tireless Edinson Cavani, who is seen as a defensive forward, deserves a chance in Solskjaer's starting line-up due to his selfless, hard-working nature.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has now echoed that sentiment, suggesting the United manager should relegate Ronaldo to the sidelines in the coming weeks if he is to rescue his position as head coach.

Did you see Ronaldo's moment of madness against Liverpool?

"I think, for Ole, he's got some big decisions to make," he told talkSPORT.

"If he wants to play this whole pressing game, then he might have to bite it a little bit and go 'You know what, Ronaldo has been good but Cavani, in terms of energy, pressing, working hard from the front, is a far better option than Ronaldo, because whenever Cavani comes on, he runs around, he works.'

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if he wants to survive much longer in this role, he'll have to start making some big decisions and that includes leaving big players out."

The Norwegian has come under intense pressure in recent days following the Red Devils' 5-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League this past weekend.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Solskjaer's future, managers such as Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane have been viewed as potential candidates to replace him should United call time on his tenure.

Here is where Solskjaer currently ranks among the highest-paid managers in England:
