The Egyptian led the ranking for quite some time, but was overtaken by Messi in the final stretch of the 2017/18 campaign.
The Argentine finished the season on 34 league goals, equating to 68 points – two more than Salah, who broke the Premier League record for a 38-game campaign after scoring his 32nd goal last weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane finished the 2017/18 campaign in third spot, with 30 goals, equating to 60 points.
Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi scored his 29th goal of the campaign to help his side overtake Lazio in the race for the UEFA Champions League spots in Serie A. The Argentine finished the season with as many goals as Lazio's Ciro Immobile and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani finished 2017/18 with 28 league goals, while Ronaldo finished the LaLiga campaign on 26 strikes and ended up in eighth position in the final Golden Shoe ranking.
Benfica's Jonas, with 34 goals, equating to 51 points (1.5 multiplier) and FC Barcelona's Luis Suarez, with 25 goals and 50 points, complete the top 10 in this year's Golden Shoe ranking.
Overall, it was Messi's fifth Golden Shoe, successfully defending his title from last season.
