When Neymar finished third for the 2015 Ballon d'Or, many expected him to take over from Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but he has not quite done that, and it has now been claimed the Brazilian superstar has the same problem Ronaldinho had.
The 29-year-old has since somewhat stalled in his career, producing brilliant performances for Paris Saint-Germain without completely threatening Messi and Ronaldo's statuses at the top of the game.
He was sidelined with injury in February and March, missing his side's two UEFA Champions League clashes with FC Barcelona.
However, his teammates managed to eliminate his former club from the continental competition without him and he is expected to start against Bayern Munich in a replay of last season's final on Wednesday night.
With Neymar once again being expected to be one of the protagonists, former PSG and Barca forward Ludovic Giuly has now compared the Selecao talisman to Ronaldinho.
"I'm going to compare Ronaldinho and Neymar on a career level. They have everything, but they don't give everything to be even higher," he told Telefoot.
PSG are working hard to extend Neymar's contract, which is currently set to expire in June 2022, and Giuly believes it would be a huge step for Les Parisiens should they convince the Brazil captain to stay beyond his current deal.
"Of course, that is an important message for us, for his teammates and for the supporters," he added.
"He shows his love and commitment to the club, it is something very important."
