The Ligue 1 leaders beat Stade Rennes 3-2 in a heated Coupe de la Ligue semi-final. Both sides had a goal ruled out via the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), while Kylian Mbappe received the first red card of his career after VAR review.
However, it was once again Neymar, who stole all the headlines for riling up the Rennes players on two occasions, as reported by ESPN.
First, he controlled a high ball superbly with his back in best Ronaldinho manner before flicking it over an opposition player, who angrily tried to grab Neymar in frustration.
Then, Neymar appeared to be keen to help Rennes' Hamari Traore, who was sitting on the floor, up but when the defender reached out for his hand, the Brazilian withdrew it quickly before jogging away with a smile.
The incident caused a clash of heads between several players of both sides in the fourth minute of injury time, but Neymar tried defend his “joke” after the game.
“I made a joke by giving my hand to my opponent and then pulling it away,” he told Brazil outfit Esporte Interativo.
“Everyone will make a scene, say nonsense.
“If I do this with my colleagues, friends, why can’t I do it with my opponents?
“That’s why sometimes I say football is boring sometimes.”
