Lionel Messi looks as if he has returned to his old, spectacular self, and could a new diet be the reason behind his resurgence?
The Argentine has been involved in 52 goals in 31 games in all competitions for Barcelona this season, racking up an impressive 21 Man of the Match awards.
His form took flight following the 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad – a game which Messi started from the bench, which resulted in an alleged spat with Luis Enrique.
The Messi of last season, who struggled to make an impact in Barcelona's big clashes after continuously struggling with injuries, seems to be forgotten.
Marca report that one of the key reasons behind this new spectacular Messi is a new diet. The 27-year-old reportedly works with a specialist, who is helping him to improve his performances.
The report claims further that Pep Guardiola was the first person to put Messi on a proper diet plan, including more fish at the expense of meat and sugary foods.
Messi has now returned to this advice from his former coach, and reintroduced better diet principles.
It seems as if this new diet is helping him achieve the desired results with his improved match fitness and fewer injury niggles - allowing him to complete almost every single game.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly followed his new plan since the beginning of the season, and is fully focused on helping Barcelona secure silverware this season.
