FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi needs to win the World Cup in order to reach Diego Maradona's level, according to a former Argentina coach who has won the trophy.
Messi been compared with Maradona since the start of his career, most notably due their similar playing style.
The Barca star has led Albiceleste to a World Cup final and three Copa America finals, losing on all four occasions.
"Messi is always compared to Maradona, to reach that same level he needs to bring the World Cup to Argentina," Former Argentina coach Carlos Bilardo told Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo.
However, Bilardo believes Argentina have a good chance of winning the coveted trophy this year in Russia.
"They have a good chance," he added.
"Messi needs to be given total freedom, with no defensive obligations.
"The team is strong and go one better than in 2014, when we could have won. We were better than Germany."
