Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has made it clear who he hopes wins the Ballon d'Or on Monday, but insists he does not care about individual awards that are voted by journalists.
The Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday evening, although there was a reportedly a leak about FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi winning this year's award.
Sarri is hopeful that Ronaldo walks away with the award, although the Portuguese already lost out to Messi for the FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year award earlier this year.
“I don’t know who is going to win. I’d hope it would be Ronaldo, because he is extraordinary," Sarri said, as per Football Italia.
"I also hope Matthijs de Ligt can contend for the young players’ award and that in future Dybala can have a real shot at the trophy.
"Having said that, no offence to all of you, I care very little about individual awards and even less so about ones assigned by journalists.”
Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk could also stake a claim after beating Ronaldo and Messi to the UEFA Men's Best Player of the Year earlier this year.
