Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has broken an impressive record set by Cristiano Ronaldo during his time with the Red Devils.

Click through the gallery to see which United players have won the club’s Player of the Year award multiple times.

The 27-year-old won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for the best player at United as voted by the fans.

Over 107 000 votes were counted and De Gea received a massive 67% of them, while Jesse Lingard finished in second place with 10% and Romelu Lukaku came in third spot with 8%.

De Gea won the award for a fourth time after lifting it between 2014 and 2016 and follows in the footsteps of his countryman Ander Herrera, who won it last season.

In doing so, the Spaniard also broke Ronaldo’s record of claiming the accolade thrice, and has now won the individual prize more than any other player in the club’s history.

"It's difficult to say with words what Manchester United means for me," he said upon receiving the award, as quoted by United’s official website.

"For anyone. It's amazing to play for this club, with the history of this club, for the fans, for everything. It's amazing to be part of this club.

"It was a bit hard at the beginning but I believed in myself and I work hard and train hard and, until now, I am proud of myself too. Of course, I want to say thanks to everyone. I didn't expect to win one but now I have won it four times so it's amazing for me. Thank you."

De Gea also won the Players’ Player of the Year award as voted by his teammates, while Nemanja Matic won the award for the Goal of the Season for his last-minute stunner against Crystal Palace.

It's up to the current croup to emulate his performance.... Klose broke Ronaldo's world cup record scorer in 2014. CR7 equaled Messi's record of 5 Ballon dor, he is yet to break it the record holder is still Messi
