A Manchester City player has become the first representative from his club to respond to rumours that Lionel Messi wants to join the Citizens.
Eric Garcia, who is understood to be keen to move to FC Barcelona, was asked recently about reports linking Messi with a move to the Etihad.
"We have not spoken at City about Messi coming," he said, as quoted by Marca.
"I imagine that many clubs would want to have him, but I am going to evade whether it would be good for the team.
"I am not going to comment (more) on it, nor can I get involved in this issue."

Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that Garcia wants to return to Barcelona after leaving the club in 2017 to join City's academy.
The defender, who has since established himself as first-team player for City, has admitted he will not be renewing his contract with the Premier League side, which is set to expire in June 2021.
"It is true that I informed City that I was not going to renew my contract next year, but I am thinking of returning (to the club) when the national team break ends and I am focused on this season," the defender added.
Garcia, though, could be included in a potential swap deal involving Messi. Alternatively, Barcelona could decide to buy him in this window if they can generate some funds from player sales.
