Although he is yet to find his best form this season after injuries disrupted the start of his campaign, FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi scored in the Catalan club's 4-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday, and set a remarkable new record in doing so.

After strikes from Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal and Ousmane Dembele, Messi struck from a direct free-kick in the 78th minute to make the score 4-0 at the Camp Nou.
It was the Argentine's first goal of the 2019/20 season, but that strike means the 32-year-old has now found the back of the net in 16 consecutive LaLiga campaigns, a feat no other player in this century has achieved.
Messi has scored 420 times in 455 LaLiga matches since his debut in the 2004/05 season, making him the leading goalscorer in the competition's history.
