An FC Barcelona star believes Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric deserves to win any individual award for the 2017/18 campaign that Lionel Messi cannot claim.
Messi Explains Where He Needs To Improve
Croatia international Modric was handed the 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball after leading his nation to the final in Russia, and was also named the UEFA Men's Player of the Year before being named a contender for FIFA's The Best Men's Player.
Blaugrana star Ivan Rakitic has now backed his national teammate to win any 2017/18 accolade Messi is not nominated for for whatever reason.
"If there is an individual prize that Lionel Messi can't win, then there's no doubt that, this season, it should go to Luka Modric," the midfielder told Marca.
"It wouldn't surprise me if he were to win with many more votes. This has been his year and I am really happy for him.
"If Messi isn't the best, then it has to be Modric."
