After Barcelona’s triumphant 5-2 victory against Athletic Bilbao on the weekend, where Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored two and assisted two, Enrique praised the player, but insisted that they are not a one-man team.
“It’s a great privilege to have a player like Messi. But the recognition should be for the whole team when they put in a performance like tonight’s,” he said, as quoted by AS.
“You make yourself stronger when objectives are assumed collectively, which is what this team is doing right now.”
Enrique then slammed claims that his side have recently changed their style of play, that makes them look like a similar outfit to rivals Real Madrid.
“That is an invention of the media, we haven’t changed,” insisted the Spanish manager.
“This is the same Barca in the same circumstances as before.
“There isn’t some magic key which you can press to change everything.”
Barcelona closed the gap on the La Liga leaders to one point after Real Madrid were thrashed 4-0 by their city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Four-time Ballon d’Or winner, Messi, has now scored 32 goals this season in all competitions.
