Louis van Gaal reportedly turned down the opportunity to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United.
The Dutch manager was not keen on bringing the Portuguese star back to Old Trafford, according to Spanish journaliast, Alfredo Duro, who told El Chiringuito that Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent met with United’s chief scout, Martin Ferguson, earlier this year.
He also claimed that, when Ferguson approached van Gaal about the opportunity, the Dutchman rejected the chance for reasons that were not made clear.
Ronaldo has been consistently linked with a move back to his former club, but after winning to consecutive Ballon d’Ors, it is likely that he will fetch a far higher fee than the then-World record sum of £80 million paid by Real Madrid in 2009.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 289 goals in 280 appearances for Real Madrid.
