The Egyptian became the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach 30 goals this season, jumping one above Messi, who drew a blank this past weekend.
Salah's 30 goals equate to 60 points in the European Golden Shoe ranking, while Messi's 29 equal 58 points, with their leagues' accumulator being rated as "two" by UEFA. However, the Argentine still has six more LaLiga games to add to his tally, while Salah has only four more Premier League matches to find the back of the net.
Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski climbed to third place after scoring his 27th league goal of the season on Saturday, equalling Lazio attacker Ciro Immobile's tally. Both, with 54 points, are still within touching distance of the top duo.
Benfica striker Jonas has missed his side's past two games due to a back injury, and remained on 33 goals for the season. He is the only player from outside Europe's top five leagues among the current top 10. His 33 strikes are only multiplied by 1.5 because the Portuguese Liga NOS is not considered among Europe's elite divisions.
Edinson Cavani and Harry Kane, who was awarded his controversial goal against Stoke City after it had initially been given to Christian Eriksen, follow with 25 goals and 50 points, while Mauro Icardi dropped to eighth spot, with the Inter Milan striker now on 24 goals and 48 points.
Completing the top 10, Luis Suarez matched Cristiano Ronaldo's tally after scoring his 23rd goal of the campaign. Both Suarez and Ronaldo, who was once again rested in the league by Zinedine Zidane on the weekend, have 46 points in the Golden Shoe ranking.
