The Egypt international put in a stellar performance against his former side, taking his total UEFA Champions League tally to 10 strikes for the campaign, becoming the African with most goals in a single UCL campaign.
Overall, he has now struke 43 times in all competitions – more than any other player in Europe so far.
In doing so, he bettered the Ronaldo’s personal best season in England. The Portuguese scored 42 goals for Manchester United in 2007/08, and Salah has now netted one more with at least four more games to play.
The 25-year-old also overtook Roger Hunt, who scored 42 times in 1961/62, as Liverpool’s second most lethal goalscorer during a single campaign.
Only Ian Rush has netted more over the course of a season for the Reds, striking 47 times in 1983/84, but Salah will have at least four more chances – five, if they reach the Champions League final – to break the all-time record.
Salah and Liverpool next face Stoke City at home on Saturday, before traveling to Rome for the second leg. The Reds end the season with a trip to Chelsea and a home clash with Brighton as well as a potential Champions League final in Kyiv.
