The Argentine ended the La Liga campaign with 37 goals, lifting the prestigious Pichichi title in Spain. His 37 goals equal 74 points in the European Golden Shoe ranking, based on the La Liga accumulator being two.

Edinson Cavani finished his campaign as Europe's second best goalscorer with 35 goals in Ligue 1, but he sits only in ninth position in the Golden Shoe ranking because the French top flight is not considered among Europe's top leagues by UEFA and, as a consequence, Cavani's goals are only multiplied by 1.5.

Sporting striker Bas Dost (34 goals, 68 points) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (31 goals, 62 points) complete the podium.

After Serie A finished their final game round this past weekend, Roma striker Edin Dzeko was crowned the top goalscorer in Italy after adding another goal to his tally and netting 29 goals overall to collect 58 points – as many as Harry Kane in England's Premier League.

Both of them were edged out by Robert Lewandowski, who netted 30 times in the Bundesliga, collecting 60 Golden Shoe points.

Napoli's Dries Mertens also added another goal to his tally over the weekend and finished the 2016/17 campaign with 28 strikes (56 points), equalling Luis Suarez's return.

Torino striker Andrea Belotti pushed Ronaldo out of the top 10 after scoring his 26th Serie A goal on the weekend, while the Portuguese finished on 25 La Liga strikes.

Here are the top 10 league goalscorers in Europe for the 2016/17 campaign:
