Lionel Messi was sent off for only the second time in his career on Saturday and the player, who was involved in the altercation with the Argentina captain, has now given his view on the incident.
The tussle happened in Argentina’s third-place play-off against Chile, which saw both Messi and Gary Medel sent off by the referee.
However, Medel has now come out in defence of his counterpart, saying the referee got his decision wrong.
“I agree with Messi, I didn't even think we'd get a yellow for it,” he said, as quoted by DailyMail.
“There were a few shoves but that was it. The referee could've handled that a lot better.”
Messi later snubbed the awards ceremony after Argentina beat Chile 2-1 to finish in third-place at this year’s Copa America.
He explained his decision with the fact that he does not “support corruption” after already being upset with the match officials in the semi-final against Brazil.
The latter ended up winning the trophy after beating Peru 3-1 in Sunday night's final
