Despite Lionel Messi having spent his entire senior career at FC Barcelona, the record six-time Ballon d'Or winner has been backed to finish his career in Argentina by the nation's most capped player of all time.

After leaving his home country at the age of 13, Messi has gone on to forge one of the most remarkable careers in football with Barcelona, with whom he has won no fewer than 34 major honours and is the club and domestic league's highest goalscorer of all time.
The Rosario-born forward is now 32 years old, and, despite maintaining an incredible level of form once again this season, is nearing the back-end of his career.

In a recent interview with Sport, Messi's former Barca and Albiceleste teammate Javier Mascherano, who is Argentina's record appearance holder with 147 caps, revealed that he would love to see his countryman head back home for his final playing days.
"Anything can happen in the world of football, and it depends on his desire to play in Argentina," Mascherano said, as translated by the Daily Mirror.
"There's also the family aspect when he decides to live over here. These are personal issues and no one else can influence them.

"If he decides to come here in the future, it'd be a huge jump in quality for our league and the country."
