FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is one of the best free-kick takers in world football at the moment, but the Argentine still trails Ballon d'Or rival Cristiano Ronaldo in direct free-kicks scored.
Click through the gallery above to see five players who have scored more free-kick goals than Ronaldo and Messi, according to Marca.
Messi scored what was already his second free-kick goal of the season against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The Argentine has now found the back of the net eight times from direct set-pieces in 2018, and also scored 10 more times via free-kicks in the past five years than any other player in Europe's top five leagues.
Messi has now scored 42 direct free-kicks in his career – 36 with Barca and six more with Argentina on the international stage.
However, despite his impressive form in dead-ball situations, the 31-year-old is still some way behind Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese has scored 56 free-kick strikes in his career – 14 of them with Manchester United, 34 with his former club Real Madrid and eight with Portugal.
Ronaldo has scored 12 of those free-kicks in the Champions League, although his record over the past few seasons has not been flattering.
The Portuguese's last goal from a set-piece came in his country's 3-3 draw with Spain at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
