FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has revealed what he and his teammates did in private following the team's shock loss last week.
The Catalans beat Alaves 5-0 away from home in their last LaLiga match of the season on Sunday afternoon, just days after their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Osasuna at the Camp Nou the same night that Real Madrid claimed the league title.
Speaking after the game against Alaves on the weekend, Messi admitted the Blaugrana players have had a long and hard look at themselves since that match against Osasuna.
"The feeling is different, this time we saw something different," he said, according to International Business Times.
"It was a difficult game to play because of the situation we were in, the kick-off time, the heat.
"The team showed a different attitude and more commitment and it's a step in the right direction ahead of what's to come, which is going to be difficult. The main thing we did was criticise ourselves in private.
"We realised a lot of things were not right. We improved our quality and commitment.
"(Afterward), things can go for you or not, but you can't be beaten because of a lack of effort. You have to put in as much or more effort than your opponents."
Messi also insisted that Barcelona must remain focused ahead of the UEFA Champions League's return in August.
"It's an important moment for us because we are playing for important things, but you do not need to have the captain's armband for that," he added.

"We are all aware that we have to be more consistent. The individual prizes are secondary."
Messi has played 42 games so far this season, scoring 30 goals and assisting a further 25 strikes along the way.
