FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, who scored a sublime strike on Wednesday night, has responded to the joke Gerard Pique made about the goal the defender scored in their 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.
Messi opened the scoring for Barca in the 61st minute with a terrific solo effort inside the box, and assisted cleverly from a free-kick just nine minutes later, or so it appeared.
The Argentine hit the ball from a set-piece just outside the box, only for it to land perfectly on Pique's right foot and then into the back of the net.
During their celebrations, Pique and Messi seemed to share a joke between themselves, with the defender claiming after the game that the set-piece was something they worked on in training.
"It was a rehearsed move," he said jokingly, according to Sport.
"We practice it a lot and it came off perfectly."
Messi stated otherwise, however, saying that Pique's strike had an element of luck to it, and nothing else.
"It wasn't rehearsed, that's a lie!" he said.
"It was a poorly taken free-kick, Pique was there and the goal was a little lucky."
Despite having one more group-stage game to play, Barca have been confirmed as Group B winners, with Messi very much the driving force in their European campaign so far.
