Following defender Gerard Pique's recent controversial remarks about FC Barcelona, superstar Lionel Messi has now responded to his teammate's comments.
In a recent article published by a Spanish publication, Barca's senior players were accused of having too much power in the dressing room, and Pique pulled no punches when he suggested that the club's board was behind the story, something that was strongly refuted by the Blaugrana leadership.
Asked about the centre-back's claims, Messi admitted he was surprised by what was said, adding that he would not have publicly stated something like that.
"Geri (Pique) doesn't tell anyone ever (what he's going to say), especially not me. So, yes, it surprised me, what he said," he told RAC1.
"Pique's been at the club for years and he knows how things go here, he knows that we all learn of everything.
"I honestly wouldn't have said it like that because it makes it a bigger issue than it is, but it's a lie that we have power in the dressing room."
